The Break-Up Diaries by Ni-Ni Simone and Kelly London. The book is split up into two different stories, the first called Hot Boyz and the second titled The Boy Trap. Both stories have female main characters and both undergo some serious drama to get the boys they want. In Hot Boyz the main character is Chance Kennedy and in The Boy Trap the story is focused around Gabrielle Newton, nicknamed Breezy. In Hot Boyz, Chance Kennedy is a confident, flirty and determined girl. She knows how to get what she wants and when she sets her sights on college-bound Ahmad King, there’s no stopping her. The only problem is that Chance is only sixteen while Ahmad is twenty-two. Not only is it an eight-year difference, it’s illegal! When Chance finds out Ahmad’s age, she lies and says she is much older. Soon after that tiny white lie, Chance is scrambling to make things right, while lying the entire time, before her secret blows up in everyone’s face.
Meanwhile, in The Boy Trap, Gabrielle Newton otherwise known as Breezy is hands-down the most popular and prettiest girl in her school. However, Breezy only has time for Tyler Scott, the hottest new basketball star at Lakeview High School. Tyler is Breezy’s golden ticket to her lifelong dream, being the pampered wife of an NBA star. But after Breezy tricks play Tyler one time too many, Tyler is done with Breezy and has her scrambling after him. Brreezy must go through a complete attitude to get Tyler back before he is gone forever, with her NBA dream.
I would definitely recommend this book as a good read for teenage girls around the ages of Chance and Breezy. The stories match comedy with drama and keep the reader guessing for what move or trick the girls will pull next. I give The Break-Up Diaries by Ni-Ni Simone and Kelly London a three out of a four star rating, which is most definitely a great read.
