Outlaw by Stephen Davies
The book Outlaw was an amazing book about a fifteen-year-old boy named Jake Knight, a major adventurer. Being such a fan of exploring often gets him into trouble. When a strict English boarding school that he was sent to without choice from his parents suspends him for rule-breaking (specifically using his parkour skills to run up a wall of a prison, and break in while playing a game with his friends), Jake flies out to Burkina Faso, in Africa where his parents and his sister Kas are living. He is expecting a long, fun, adventure-filled vacation with warm, sunny weather. But he does not know what is in store for him during his "vacation." He finds out that kidnapping, terrorism and Yakuuba Sor – the most wanted outlaw in the Sahara desert, wait for him in Africa. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is into an action-packed and very interesting story. I would be extremely excited to read the next book by Stephen Davies, and I thought that "Outlaw," was an outstanding book.

Dead Is Not An Option by Marlene Perez
The supernatural fiction story, Dead Is Not An Option by Marlene Perez is the fifth installation in the Dead Is series. In the beginning, Daisy Giordano (the protagonist) is still waiting for her acceptance letter from her dream college, UC Nightshade. But something strange happens: no letters come at all, whether they be acceptance or rejection letters. However, that's not the least of Daisy's worries.
One day, as Daisy goes out to get groceries, she encounters Elise Wilder, a shifter, in a shocking state. Elise is at the brink of death and needs to be hospitalized. Daisy reports it to the officials, and soon, more and more attacks pile up until, all over, vampires and shifters are out for blood from their opposing sides. To stress Daisy even more, her old enemy, Circe Silvertongue is back, and even welcomed, some might say. She is the key to help Daisy free Lily and Balthazar from their wretched states as a jukebox and a pig. But will Circe help? And will everything return to normal soon? I recommend this book to people who enjoyed reading New Moon in the Twilight series, or to avid readers of supernatural fiction.

Torn by Margaret Peterson Haddix
I recently finished the book Torn by Margaret Peterson Haddix. In this book, a boy Jonah and his sister Katherine are sent back in the past to 1611, on the last voyage of Henry Hudson. Jonah is a child who was pulled out of the past and brought to the 21st century by illegal time travelers, who shouldn't have done what they did. When Jonah is sent on this mission, he doesn't expect to be out of communication with his futuristic helper, JB. Jonah also doesn't expect to have to deal with time paradoxes, which can be threatening to the world itself, past and future. Worst of all, Jonah even has to take on the roll of John Hudson, who is Henry Hudson's son. Throughout this exciting story, Jonah is forced to make decisions the way he thought John Hudson would make them. If Jonah makes a mistake, he can jeopardize time itself. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a thrilling sci-fi historical novel. I hugely look forward to reading the next book in this wonderful series.

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway
A Moveable Feast, a memoir by Ernest Hemingway, is a series of vignettes depicting Paris in the 1920s. Written in his characteristic stark style, this book is a revealing glimpse into Hemingway’s life as a young writer, as well as of other influential writers including Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, James Joyce and F. Scott Fitzgerald. The title of this memoir refers to his memories of Paris, which continued to travel with the him for the rest of life, after he has had the experience of it and gone away. Tenderly composed, Hemingway reflects on his foibles as a writer and as a person as well, as his marriage with his first wife disintegrated during this period. While there is not linear plot, the book tracks Hemingway’s path from an unknown writer to one of the greatest authors of his time, his process as a writer, his relationship with other writers and his wife and family, as well as offering a look into the depression that ultimately destroyed him. A Moveable Feast can best be summarized by Hemingway himself: “This book contains material from the remises of my memory and of my heart. Even if the one has been tampered with and the other does not exist.” An enjoyable, evocative read, this book is recommended for both first-time readers and long-time fans of Hemingway alike.

The Apothecary by Maile Meloy
I read The Apothecary by Maile Meloy. This book was a amazing book. It will surprise the reader at every turn. It has a great plot. The book has a amazing combination of history, fiction, and science. World War II has just ended, but Russia is back for the Cold War. It is 1952 and the Scott family are moving to London. Janie is upset that they have to leave. When they arrive, the local apothecary gives Janie a cure for homesickness. However Mr. Burrows is no ordinary man. When he gets kidnapped, he gives an ancient book, the Pharmacopeia, to his son Benjamin Burrows. Russian spies are intent on getting the book. Discovering unbelievable elixirs in the book, Janie and Benjamin have to save the world from an unearthly disaster. I would highly recommend this book. It is an amazing book, and danger is around every corner. We can learn from it because there is information about World War II and the Cold War in there. We can also enjoy the book because it is a great story.

Dancergirl by Carol M. Tanzman
Becoming an Internet star may be every girls dream. However, it was Alicia Ruffino's nightmare in Dancergirl. Alicia Ruffino was just an ordinary girl who loved dancing, until her friend Charlie put a video of her dancing on the Internet. From, then on out it was a dream turned nightmare. He edited the video and called her, "Dancergirl". Suddenly, she starts to get things like dolls, flowers, notes and phone calls from a "fan". Not only that, but someone posted a video of her online, only she didn't even know she was being recorded. Clue after clue, the fan is revealed. This book will keep you at the edge of your seat. This book is pretty good, but not amazing. The beginning of the book starts off a little slow, but overall this is a good book. If you like drama and mystery, this is a book for you. I recommend this book for ages 13 and up because of some violence.

Dancergirl has some awesome book trailers including a zombie dance(!), so I've included them with Alyssa's review.

After Obession by Carrie Jones
The novel After Obsession, by Carrie Jones and Steven E. Wedel is about a girl named Aimee and a boy named Alan. Aimee was happily dating Blake, but lately feels as though she wants to break up with him. Blake suddenly turns violent and unlike himself. But it's not only Blake that's feeling this way. Everyone in the town is acting strangely. When Aimee meets Alan, there is a sudden spark. For some reason, they feel drawn to each other. That's not surprising, given the fact that they have a lot in common. For example, they both have these strange visions. Aimee starts dreaming of the "River Man", an old legend that says that the River Man negatively influences others. Alan and Aimee soon find that the River Man is not a tale after strange things begin happening and they work to stop him.
After Obsession was an extremely fast paced novel. It was a bit too fast paced for my liking, but everyone's different. The novel was full of action and enough excitement to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan
It is an adventure story that takes place in Redmont fief, part of the Kingdom of Araluen. The main character’s name is Will. Will was raised in the Ward at Castle Redmont as an orphan. Will is stealthy, fast, kind, and always very curious. He is also very small for his age (fifteen years old). When Will was 15, he was chosen to become an apprentice by a Ranger named Halt. A Ranger is a bowman that is like a spy or secret agent, and there is only one ranger for each fief. They are sworn to protect the kingdom. Find out if they can stop Lord Morgarath and his evil henchman before it’s too late!
I highly recommend reading this book to people who like adventure. This action-packed book is great and I give it five out of five stars. I hope people read it, and if they do I definitely think they will enjoy it.

In Wherever You Go by Heather Davis, 17 year-old Holly Mullen is faced with terrible loss and loneliness, ever since her boyfriend, Rob, died in a car accident. While constantly having to take care of her little sister and Alzheimer-stricken grandfather, Holly struggles to live everyday without him. Even though she knows he won't be coming back, what she doesn't know, is that Rob's ghost is looking after her.
And he doesn't like the fact that his best friend, Jason, is reaching out to help Holly and her grandfather. As a ghost, he can do nothing but watch, but discovers that he can communicate with Holly's grandfather. Holly doesn't know whether to believe her grandfather's messages from Rob, or open her heart out to Jason. But as she wonders about these things, the past comes to haunt her.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I would recommend this for anyone who's into mystery/romance novels. This book has an interesting plot, and covers many present "teen" issues in the world today. This book was so intriguing that I finished it within 3 days! :) If you want to find out what happens, you have to read the book!

Hunted: The Shadowing by Adam Slater
During December, I read the book Hunted: The Shadowing by Adam Slater. I found this book to be both scary and exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading horror. I enjoyed this book because it brought a different type of book to me; one of horror and unpredictability. I would rate this book 7/10. Though this horror book is a good read, I found some parts to be very graphic. As a result, this book would not serve as an appropriate book for younger readers. However, I found to be more good points of this book, than bad ones.
The Shadowing: Hunted brings the reader on the frightening story of Callum Scott. Callum is a normal teenager who lives with his grandmother, except he can see ghosts. Callum never found it that interesting, but he finds out he can see the future before it really happens. A girl in his school, Melissa is saved from this power and finds out all about Callum's situation because of her vast knowledge of superstition and "ghost-related" aspects. Then, these two find themselves being chased by a unknown monster and meeting a friendly ghost along the way.

Perfect by Ellen Hopkins
The book Perfect, by Ellen Hopkins, is by far one of the best books I've read in a while. It follows the story of four high school seniors, as they struggle to be their own form of perfect. Cara, is a girl whose parents are overbearing, and expect far too much of her and her brother, who already tried to commit suicide. Sean, is her boyfriend, who gets addicted to steroids trying to be the best baseball player he can be, so that he can go to Stanford and stay with Cara. Kendra has been in multiple beauty pageants, and would do anything to further her modeling career. And her little sister is dating Andre, who wants nothing more than to be a dancer, much to his parents dismay. These four separate story lines intertwine in the most intricate of patterns. "Perfect" was an absolutely incredible book, written in intriguing poems that make the book even more interesting. It is technically the sequel to the book Impulse, but can easily be read on its own. I would recommend this book to everyone, it is absolutely unbelievable.

Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix
The book Among the Hidden is about a boy named Luke who is the third child in the Garner family. In his time, every family was only allowed two children. Luke was the third child for the Garner’s family. He could not be spotted or else he would be sent to the population police. If ever, he would be starved or killed. One day he spotted a person draw the curtains when everyone in the house next door left. Other days he saw light coming from the living room. Then a few days later he got out of his house and snuck in to the other person’s house. He found out there was a girl named Jen who was also a third child. He spent a lot of time at her house. He learned that she hated being stuck in her house. She emailed a bunch of her friends that she and a bunch of friends who will join and assist her and make a rally to protest against the laws. Luke stayed home and weeks after the rally Jen did not make it back. He snuck in to her house. This story was heart racing and exciting if you imagine that you had Luke’s life. If one person saw you your life is over. This is one of the best books I ever read.

Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan
Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan takes place in India. The story is about a young girl whose name is Koly. Her parents arrange a marriage for her with a boy she has never met. An unexpected event happens to her new husband, her father-in-law, and her sister-in-law which makes her feel there is no more hope. Her mother-in-law abandons her and leaves her homeless. Something happens to Koly that changes her point of view of things and changes the rest of her life. I liked this book because it is about a girl who is about my age. The book is about doing the right thing, making the right choices, and marriages of young couples and their hardships. I liked how the end of each chapter makes you want to read the next one. I would recommend this book to someone who likes stories about young girls, someone who is interested in India, and someone who likes books that are about doing the right thing.

Schooled by Gordon Korman
Schooled by Gordon Korman is about a boy named Capricorn aka CAP. He grow up in a very primitive environment with his grandmother. CAP was home-schooled by his grandmother, then after she gets hurt and has to stay at the hospital, CAP is forced to attend public middle school and lives with the guidance counselor. At Claverage middle school, CAP was treated like dirt at the beginning of the novel, and to make it worst, Zach Powers, his supposed friend nominates him for class president, which is a symbol for nerds. However, CAP's actions convinced people that his way of life is not so bad after all, and by the end of the novel, the characters in the novel learn to accept CAP for who he is. This book was an easy read with a powerful message, that message is how others should accept people for how they are. I give this book a 4/5 and recommend it to everyone of all ages.

Angel by James Peterson
Angel is an upbeat exciting book that is full of suspense and adventure. There’s romance, excitement and twists and turns beyond your wildest dreams. The Maximum Ride Books are some of the best books that I have read and I thought that this was the best book in the series. The cliffhanger at the end really left me wanting more. Unfortunately we’ll just have to use our imagination because this is the last book in the series. I couldn’t put the book down but I was sorry when it was over. I really think everyone should read this book, and you don’t even have to read the rest of the series because there are recaps in important spots where necessary. An absolute must read.

Demon Glass by Rachel Hawkins
Demon Glass by Rachel Hawkins is an amazing book. It is the sequel to Hex Hall. Sophie Mercer discovers that she is actually a demon and is distraught by the fact that past demons have killed the lives of people they love. Sophie follows her father to London with her friends Jenna and Cal, in an attempt to convince her father to allow her to go through with the Removal. While at London, Sophie stumbles upon a conspiracy and discovers that someone is raising demons in secret. The Eye is also hunting Sophie. Like this wasn't enough trouble, Archer Cross comes back into Sophie's life. Sophie is confused while Archer tells her to trust him and everybody else claims that he is dangerous and not to be trusted. As Sophie starts to learn to control her powers, danger is arriving. Can Sophie save the lives of the people she loves? This novel contains many twists and turns to make it interesting. There was an unexpected betrayal and Sophie's confusion kept me on the edge of my seat. Some points in the story made me smile and some made me gasp. It also leaves off on a cliffhanger, so be sure to look out to the next book in the series!

The Mark of the Golden Dragon by L.A. Meyer
The book I read was The Adventures of Jacky Faber: The Mark of the Golden Dragon by L. A. Meyer. This book is the latest in a series that follows the adventures of Mary "Bloody Jack" Faber. It is a great book, full of surprises at every turn. Jacky Faber has escaped prison and is now sailing through Asia to London with her fiance Jaimy and her crew. There is a storm and Jacky is swept overboard. Now with only a boy assistant and stranded on a island, how will Jacky survive? How will she ever she Jaimy again? I like this book but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a high maturity level. It contains some language that is not for people with a low maturity level.

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
The book I read was The Son Of Neptune by Rick Riordan. This is a book about three kids who are demigods. There is Percy Jackson who awoke from a long sleep and has lost most of his memory. Then there is Hazel who has awakened a giant and Frank whose life depends on a stick of wood that can't burn and if it does Frank will die. Being a demigod means you are the son or daughter of a god but you are also part human. These three friends go on a journey to save their camp and the world from the giant. To save their camp they use special weapons they were given. Hazel has a dagger, Percy has a sword/pen named riptide and Frank has a spear that allows him to summon a dead person to help him in battle. The camps eagle which is mainly its power source is also missing. I liked this book and I would recommend it to people of all ages as long as they can read a long chapter book. I also recommend it to people who like adventure, suspense and action. I thought it was funny and it had a happy ending.

Battle Fatigue by Mark Kurlansky
The book that I reviewed is Battle Fatigue by Mark Kurlansky. Battle Fatigue was about a boy named Joel Bloom who lives in Haley. Ever since he was young he was always told that he would go to war. All the men in his neighborhood went to war. The thing is, he doesn't want to serve in the Vietnam War. He doesn't believe in killing people. He tried to be a Conscientious objector(person who refuses to serve in war) but he was turned down. His two choices now are to serve in the Vietnam War or to go to Canada and leave all his loved ones behind. It all comes down to this. This book definitely taught me more about war. However, I personally did not like the book. I picked this book because it sounded interesting but as I kept reading on and on it keeps talking about what war puts people through and how it changes people forever and I didn't like that. I would recommend this book if you are interested in learning about war but if you're more into happy-ending type of books I wouldn't recommend it.

Among the Enemy by Margaret Peterson Haddix
This novel involves a lot of undercover work. It involves gunshots, an explosion, death, and fake I.D. cards. It is a short novel that I could not put down. This book is the 6th book of the Shadow Children series, yet it would not be confusing if you haven't read the previous books. Haddix creates a story that follows Matthias as he tries to save and find his dearest friends in life.

Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix
I read the book, Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix (Which is part of the series The Missing) is a humerous and overall good book. It starts with a prologue that's gets you up to speed. Chip, Alex, Katherine and Jonah are transported to the 15th century. Chip and Alex are actually Edward V and Richard, Duke of York. They are being hunted down by their uncle, the evil Richard of Gloucester, who kills their tracer, which shows what that person would had done if the time-travelers had never been there. Armed with their Elucidator, a special device that helps them on their journey, they turn invisible to avoid being caught and altering history. With a few close chances, they continue to try to get back home until Chip becomes extremely angry since Richard of Gloucester was going to be the new king and he talks to him, as if he is a spirit in his head. Richard then is able to see them, since the Elucidator had restored to its original settings. Katherine acts quickly and says they are angels. They then talked to a group of monks, who gave them a perspective on the views of the people of England in the 1400's. They then tried to find out how to get back to the 21st century, to which they found out 2 years must pass for them to go home. Katherine and Jonah go to save Alex and Chip since they are their only hope and they confront Richard, who is now Richard III. He worried about his now dead family and how they were in Heaven.
I would recommend this book to a friend because it is historical fiction , but it is told in a new way. It is not a journal entry of a fictional person. It is a story that has characters that people can relate to. Jonah is more laid back while Katherine is neurotic. I think that this book has such skillful writing that you can see the whole story play out in front of you and a movie about this book would'nt be a bad idea either.

In the book This Dark Endeavor The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein by Kenneth Oppel, Konrad and Victor are twins. There family history is of dark and negative members. Their cousin Elizabeth helps them discover a hidden library which holds many dark secrets. As Konrad gets really sick Victor, Elizabeth, and his friend Henry look for an Alchemist to cure Konrad. They also search on a dangerous quest to find a ingredients for the Elixiar of Life that can save Konrad. As Victor realizes that he is starting to become like his former relatives he realizes that maybe his family's history may not be dark. This book was fun to read and surprised me time to time. This book is great for people who read about adventures and enjoy dangerous stories to unlock a greater mystery. I highly recommend this book.

The Break-Up Diaries by Ni-Ni Simone and Kelly London
Over this past month, I chose to read a book titled The Break-Up Diaries by Ni-Ni Simone and Kelly London. The book is split up into two different stories, the first called Hot Boyz and the second titled The Boy Trap. Both stories have female main characters and both undergo some serious drama to get the boys they want. In Hot Boyz the main character is Chance Kennedy and in The Boy Trap the story is focused around Gabrielle Newton, nicknamed Breezy. In Hot Boyz, Chance Kennedy is a confident, flirty and determined girl. She knows how to get what she wants and when she sets her sights on college-bound Ahmad King, there’s no stopping her. The only problem is that Chance is only sixteen while Ahmad is twenty-two. Not only is it an eight-year difference, it’s illegal! When Chance finds out Ahmad’s age, she lies and says she is much older. Soon after that tiny white lie, Chance is scrambling to make things right, while lying the entire time, before her secret blows up in everyone’s face.
Meanwhile, in The Boy Trap, Gabrielle Newton otherwise known as Breezy is hands-down the most popular and prettiest girl in her school. However, Breezy only has time for Tyler Scott, the hottest new basketball star at Lakeview High School. Tyler is Breezy’s golden ticket to her lifelong dream, being the pampered wife of an NBA star. But after Breezy tricks play Tyler one time too many, Tyler is done with Breezy and has her scrambling after him. Brreezy must go through a complete attitude to get Tyler back before he is gone forever, with her NBA dream.
I would definitely recommend this book as a good read for teenage girls around the ages of Chance and Breezy. The stories match comedy with drama and keep the reader guessing for what move or trick the girls will pull next. I give The Break-Up Diaries by Ni-Ni Simone and Kelly London a three out of a four star rating, which is most definitely a great read.

Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson
I read Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson. I recommend this book. I liked Ultraviolet because it was very interesting and it made me want to continue reading. The book had many unexpected twists and turns and it was very well written. It was about a Alison, a sixteen year old girl who wakes up in a mental institution. She slowly pieces back her memory, and she realizes in a psychotic craze, she admitted to killing Tori Beaugrand, but she doesn't know how. They were fighting, and then Tori vanished into thin air. Ali thinks that it was her fault. She knows that she cannot disintegrate someone, so she thinks she has gone insane. Ali always had strange and abnormal sensory abilities, but know they have grown stronger. She thinks those abilities could be linked with Tori's disappearance. A scientists comes to help her and help her understand her abilities, but she realizes nothing is how it seems.
